BDO Canada LLP, has a glowing reputation in Cranbrook. Mark Calder, one of the partners at BDO, was kind enough to answer a few of our questions about his staff, clientele and general enjoyment of the Kootenay lifestyle.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

First and foremost, it’s the people. The clients we have, and work with on a daily basis are great. I enjoy working with each of them and helping them achieve their financial goals. Also, we have an excellent staff at BDO and it’s a pleasure to work with them every day.

What are your favourite activities outside of work?

Spending time with my kids and doing any number of activities with them. I also enjoy golfing, hiking and fishing in the summer, while it’s hockey and skiing, in the winter.

What's the best part of working and living in the Kootenays?

Again, it’s the people. I grew up in Cranbrook but moved to Calgary for 10 years to go to school and do my articling but it didn’t compare to here so I couldn’t wait to move back home. Also if you like the outdoors at all, from the golf courses, lakes, mountains and ski hills, there is no better place than the Kootenays. We are extremely fortunate to be living here.

What is your proudest accomplishment?

Definitely my kids and watching them grow up. I am also proud of obtaining my CA designation (as it is a very challenging process) and working my way up through an international firm like BDO, to become a partner.
