Cranbrook lucked out when an Irishman married a local chef. It’s a longer story, but now city residents can enjoy Burkey’s Coffee House and Bake Shop at 16 - 11th Avenue South. The owners, Andrew and Sam (short for Samantha) Burke, moved from Dublin a year ago and are pleased with their new business, which opened in April for breakfast and lunch. Specialties include scones, Irish stew, Guinness stew, hamburger soup and Irish soda bread. “I love scones,” said Andrew, who handles the baking side. “They go over really well.” The location was previously home to the Swing Street Coffee Shop for three decades.
