Selkirk Security Services Ltd. opened its main headquarters in Trail in 2006, and with more than 50 employees the company has extended its reach to communities throughout the East and West Kootenay, as well as to international clients.

The company serves residential, industrial and commercial customers, specializing in access control, surveillance, intercoms, burglar and fire alarms and more. Their devices are serviced and installed by certified trade technicians, so customers can feel at ease that the job was done right.

A team to be proud of

Technical supervisor William Trowell and guard supervisor Joya McIntyre have guided the company through its growth and take great pride in their extensive team of experts. Trowell owns the company along with two silent partners. He has been working in law enforcement and security since 1987, and has an impressive résumé. His background includes terms as a deputy sheriff in Prince Rupert, a sub-lieutenant in the Canadian Naval Reserve, chairman of the RCMP community consultant group in Prince Rupert, manager of Search and Rescue with the Provincial Emergency Program, and Coxswain & Boating safety officer for the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

McIntyre is a long-standing resident of Trail who has worked in security since 2002. She puts the community at the top of her priority list and goes above and beyond to  ensure that her fellow citizens are protected. She has a stellar reputation among colleagues and customers alike for her exceptional service and dedication.

"Our proudest moment happens daily for us," said Trowell. "It’s when our clients provide feedback. We are proud when our staff excel at their job and are recognized for their dedication by our clients."

Expanding its scope

The business has had some significant expansions in the past couple of years. 2010 saw the addition of a dedicated technician for the Creston Valley and a fire and safety technician in Grand Forks. In 2011 Selkirk Security added a bucket truck to its fleet, hired a dedicated IT tech and brought in a sprinkler fitter for the company's fire and safety service and inspection team. Trowell and his team have no intentions of letting the current economic drawbacks get them down.

"Selkirk strives to adapt to these situations by creating promotional plans, seeking out projects and expanding our security and safety services," he said, "as we have recently done by adding Trail’s only fire extinguisher service centre and hiring two new staff."

Selkirk Security also employs a team of licensed security guards, alarm responders and medics to be available for any situation that arises. ULC alarm monitoring is provided through their partner companies.
