Natalie Santano has been skilled with a camera since she was quite young. She was able to put this talent to good use when she started up her business, Natalie Santano Photography. I had the distinct privilege of sitting for a photo shoot with Santano, and I can testify to her shining personality and professionalism, as well as the level of artistic ability that she possesses. I asked Santano a few questions about her business, and she was kind enough to respond in her usual sweet-natured style.

When were you inspired to start up Natalie Santano Photography?

I’ve always loved studying people—watching them and capturing their true personalities. When I was a little girl, I loved “sneaking up on people” to get random shots. Good or bad…when they were smiling, laughing, crying, eating, blowing their nose—you name it, I got it. But as I got older, and more conscious of myself and how I looked, I got the bright idea that for the most part, people like it when you focus on their best traits—when you get pictures that make them look fabulous. Since then I have tried to take pictures that really bring out their best and most beautiful features.

How have you grown as a photographer since you started the company?

More and more I find joy in what I do. I fall more in love with photography with every photo shoot. It’s my natural “high.”

What type of photos do you consider your specialty?

I love the “butterfly feelings” of engagement pictures, the happiness of a wedding day, the joy and excitement of maternity pictures and the “newness” of babies. I can’t really pinpoint any one in particular because each phase of life is special and important to the person experiencing it.

What has been your greatest accomplishment so far, in terms of the company, and why is it a rewarding line of work?

My greatest joy comes from clients that love their photos and love how they look in them. I get my joy when I hear them say, “Wow, I look so good!” I want people to see what I see…provoke something within themselves through my photography.

What have been your biggest challenges?

My biggest challenge so far has been trying to balance home with business. My husband also has his own business which takes up a lot of his time too, but we try to remember and hold true to the statement that “no success can compensate for failure in the home.” Our family values are more important to us than any run of success or good fortune.

Is there anything else you would like our readers to know about your business?

In March of this year I opened up a studio where I can take pictures of individuals and small families. This is something I thought was lacking in Creston and since its opening it has been a huge hit.
