Stitchin' Time pleases crafters of all skill levels and ages

by

For almost four years now, Kathy Dressel has been meeting the needs of sewing, knitting, quilting and craft enthusiasts with her Creston business, Stitchin' Time. Located on 10th Avenue North (just across from the post office), the business carries quilt shop quality fabrics, a wide variety of yarns, needles, hooks and other supplies.

"I love the idea that we make one-of-a-kind original pieces of art every time we complete a project," said Dressel. "A group of ladies can all be working with the same pattern or fabrics and each one will be different based on what we put of ourselves into it."

Dressel also offers classes. She holds educational sessions for beginner and intermediate quilters, and will also be teaching knitting classes starting in spring of 2012. In 2010 she even hosted a children's class with basic sewing skills and projects.

"I love to see their smiling faces as they show their parents what they have made," she said.

Having lived in Creston for 35 years, it's fair to say that Dressel is in touch with her community. She married her high school sweetheart 26 years ago, and found Creston to be the perfect place to raise her family. The joys of successful business ownership are just icing on the cake.

"I love having my own business," she said. "My customers are happy, friendly people who love working with colours and textures . . . just like me. It is a lot of hard work, but well worth the effort. I owe Community Futures a big 'thank you' for helping me to realize my dream. They made me do a lot of research and they offered classes that were essential to the running of my business."
