Todd Weselake takes his business seriously, but he still has a lot of fun in the process.

Todd Weselake began operating Raven Eye Photography out of Fernie and Invermere in the summer of 2000. Originally called Todd's Photos, this company went through more than just a name change in 2008, expanding to include event, commercial and stock photography, not to mention bringing a secondary staff photographer, Martina Halik, on board.

Weselake appreciates all aspects of his art, and has grown as a photographer and as an entrepreneur.

"In the past I would have said (my favourite subject is) action sports photography, but as the business has grown that opinion has changed," he said. "Each new project presents its own intrigue and challenges. I love the creativity this brings forth and the unique places my work takes me. The variety of work is astonishing! I'm passionate about every theme and occasion I have the privilege to capture."

Quality means hard work

The photography industry comes with significant challenges that go far beyond the artistic ones. Many do not realize the time and cost that goes into producing quality photos, but Weselake does all he can to make the end product as desirable and affordable as possible.

"Our costs are just as high as any professional trade," he said. "There are thousands of dollars worth of equipment and computer software that constantly need upgrading. For every hour of shooting there are at least three hours of editing. We believe we offer very reasonable and competitive rates, which ultimately leads to the success of our company."

Proud to be a Kootenay businessman

Having grown up in Fernie, Weselake enjoys running a business from his hometown. And with a joint location in Invermere, he can capture images of some of the stunning scenery and people that this area is so famous for.

"The people, culture and mountain landscape are so unique; the Kootenays have something special that sets this area apart from the rest of the world," Weselake said. "We love to travel to all areas in southern B.C. and beyond. I am proud every day that I get to do what I love to do, where I love to do it."
