Where would any celebration be without great music? No need to worry about that, because Colin Seed has been rocking the Kootenays since 1996 with his business, Party Party! DJ Services.

Party Party! services Nelson, Castlegar, Trail, Rossland and surrounding areas—but the DJs will also venture to locations such as Creston, Kaslo, Nakusp and Christina Lake. They have enough staff members to service three parties in a single evening, making it convenient for customers to book a DJ at any given time—whether for weddings, school dances, business functions or any other occasion that calls for quality entertainment.

“As a child in the ’60s, I was fascinated by the AM DJs in my hometown of Thunder Bay, Ontario,” said Seed. “Later on, when (I was) starting university, recorded music and disco was becoming popular in clubs and at parties. I needed a part-time job and it was perfect. I quickly became one of the most popular DJs at weddings because I could play for both the younger and older crowds.”

Building a career

Seed eventually started his own small DJ company in Calgary, Alberta, during the 1980s. In 1994 he moved to Nelson, B.C., and Party Party! was created as a side business while he worked for the Nelson Daily News. His musical career took priority, however, and Party Party! has become a full-time endeavour.

"We love parties,” said Seed. “We particularly like playing requests, but people sometimes forget they're at a dance. Our prime directive is keeping the dance floor hopping."

Appealing to all tastes

The company's electronic set-up is a compact unit that only requires a table and plug-in to be provided at the venue. Seed continues to showcase his musical diversity, and Party Party! offers everything from oldies to the latest hits, country or rock and roll.

“Music and people's tastes have become much more varied in recent years,” he said. “Whereas we used to use 30 cassette tapes with 30 songs each, I now carry over 10,000 songs to each party. I obviously don't use them all, but after over 30 years of parties, we're ready for just about anything.”
