Blending creativity and technology
The staff at Breeding Fields in Castlegar take a novel approach to computer programming
Breeding Fields is a multimedia development company out of Castlegar that focuses on customized services. Established in 2008, this business takes the stress out of website management, specializing in Drupal Content Management systems to make the entire process as user-friendly as possible.
"Content Management Systems (CMS) allows non-technical users to add and edit the content without needing to know any HTML or have a base of web design/programming knowledge," said owner Michelle Jaciubek. "Using Drupal also allows a site to easily grow as the business grows."
This is good news for business owners everywhere who want to get in tune with the growing Internet sphere.
The power of customization
The staff at Breeding Fields pride themselves on creating customized systems to suit individual client needs. This might mean reprogramming a new design onto an old site, enhancing a current site or creating a new one from scratch. All of their websites are equipped with search engine optimization, and they also offer optional features such as solar-powered hosting, website maintenance packages and analytics for tracking page views and other data.
"Other services we offer are 3D modelling for logos and marketing,” said Jaciubek, "and videography services, which include filming and editing events and professional meetings, music videos, instructional videos and web commercials. Working through any creative project is very rewarding, we are always growing as a business and personally through each challenge—whether it is web or film."
Combining talents
The film aspect of Breeding Fields makes it stand out as a programming company. It has given staff a way of branching out beyond the world of the Internet, to embrace their artistic passions as well as their technical skills. While documentaries are a particular favourite, Jaciubek seems enthralled with all types of film creation.
"We have one long-term project on the go that we have been filming for the last year," she said. "We like to do little projects in between development work for events or when we have a creative moment. To integrate our film work with the web development we do, we would like to get more into making promotional videos for our clients to have on their sites—this really puts up the site's visibility on the web and, if it is good, gets their business a lot of attention."
