It’s not easy to appeal to a group of people who are as passionate about their hobby as quilters are, but Tammy Howard has experience serving this particular community. She’s recently moved her business of six years, SugarTown Quilt Company, from Raymond, Alberta, to Cranbrook, B.C.

After opening at her new location in January of 2014, she’s had plenty of positive feedback.

SugarTown Quilt Company can now be found right next to Liquidation World at 338 King Street. The building, a former tire store, has been updated to a fresh new shop with raised ceilings that hold beautiful displays and an abundance of fabric. Howard anticipates opening a garden this summer and the whole project has been a fun outlet for Howard’s creativity.

“Quilting comes with a different personality in each place,” she said. “I’ve literally had representatives from every guild in the area come to visit me.”

Howard hopes to provide something new to the region, leaving certain services to other businesses in the area. She’ll soon be offering quilting classes and looks forward to contributing to, and learning from, the quilting community in the East Kootenay.

“I like to learn from everybody,” said Howard with a laugh. “Just because I own the quilt shop doesn’t mean I have all the answers.”

Visit the store on Facebook or search for SugarTown Quilt Company on Instagram.
