Female president to pioneer rod and gun club
Barbara Konig has been a member of the Lake Windermere Rod and Gun Club for almost a decade; the club itself was established 95 years ago. Konig will leave her mark as the first woman to ever be appointed as the club's president.
“I'm obviously very proud, but also a little overwhelmed right now,” said Konig. “I do have a great team behind me that I can count on to keep the club being involved in all we're doing—not just hunting and fishing. There is the environmental and conservation side, we work with the BC Wildlife Federation, fix up campsites, run work bees, have regular shoots—either archery or trap—we give input on hunting and trapping regulations and so on.”
Konig will certainly have her work cut out for her. The club has more than 200 members and is a community that stays involved in a number of events and programs. Konig puts emphasis on “educating the future decision-makers in order to keep this beautiful area free and safe for everyone to enjoy.”
“Becoming the first female president in the 95-year history of the club was the easy thing,” Konig said with a laugh. “Now I have to prove that I can actually do it.”
