Facilitating new families

Welcoming a new baby into a family is a joyous experience—but certainly not a simple one. A doula can make the labour experience easier by offering emotional and physical support for the mother, as well as education. Doulas act as advocates for the parents and help formulate birth plans, working in conjunction with doctors and midwives. Expectant parents in Nelson and the surrounding area can now utilize the services of a doula through a new business, At the Birth—Private Doula Care.

At The Birth is run by Bailey Delves, a mother of three children with a wealth of experience behind her. She is a trained birth doula, having received her training through Doulas of North America. She is also a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator and provides at-home private lamaze classes. Additionally, she offers belly castings for women wanting a one-of-a-kind piece of art to commemorate their pregnancies.

“The best part of my job is knowing that I’ve helped a new family to make the (birthing) transition a little easier,” said Delves.
