Handz On Ceramic Studio in Kimberley has been open a full year now, and owner Alicia Herman could not be more pleased.

Born in North Vancouver and brought up in Spain, Herman has made Kimberley her home for the last eight years. Before opening her studio, she had a home-based business selling wholesale pottery pieces. She said that she missed the art side so much, she decided to open to the public.

Herman is inspired by nature and children, and this is certainly evident when you visit the studio. Customers can choose from a variety of ceramic pieces to paint, and these range in price. Figurines, pretty mugs, giant shells—they are all waiting to come alive with the customer's own style. Herman fires the pieces in her kiln, and they are ready to pick up after a few days. Herman said she enjoys the social side of her job, as well as seeing kids and adults alike produce some amazing pieces. She facilitates birthday parties and groups, and is planning on offering workshops in the spring. Check out Handz On Ceramic Studio on Facebook.
