3-D printing has opened a world of creative possibilities.

The technical staff at Rocky Mountain Print Solutions (RMPS) in Cranbrook are learning the capabilities of their new MakerBot Replicator, a desk-top unit that weighs about 20 kilos and costs about $3,000. The unit replicates objects in three dimensions, using strong, lightweight, biodegradable plastic. Operating the machine is easy, according to Stephen Wik of RMPS, but acquiring the design expertise will take some time.
