It is no surprise that Scott Duke is an entrepreneur today. He had his first business while still in high school— a company called Fleece-it that made fleece hats, gloves and scarves.

In university he had another business. Duke said it was “more legitimate” as it had 15 people on the staff.

When Duke arrived in Revelstoke almost 20 years ago, the first thing he did was buy a business—Duke’s Dogs, a hot dog stand. He then started a Radio station, Stoke FM.

His latest ventures are Revelstoke Property Services as well as Welstand Business Brokers.

How did you come to choose this line of work?

Everything I have done leading up to my current occupation has been a direct result of filling a consumer need.  My property management company and business brokerage are no different.

What is it about your work that has you excited to get out of bed in the morning?

Constant challenge.  The industries I am in provide new opportunity every day.  So there is always excitement.

What’s your focus for 2016?

To help 20 people transition their business to new owners and pull out the locked-in equity for their family, investment or retirement

Why did you decide to become an entrepreneur in the Kootenays?

I was an entrepreneur before coming to the Kootenays.  I think I always have been.  I chose to come to the Kootenays for lifestyle and it was a fantastic choice.
