Bradley Higham
This tech-driven CEO has been establishing roots in his community business: Collabo Consulting Inc.
Brad Higham has a strong background in technology, and it’s served him well. Now he is the CEO of Collabo Consulting Inc. and assists with several non-profit organizations.
How did you come to choose this line of work?
I have a very technical background, with an education in computer systems engineering and a minor in computer science from the University of Guelph. I always knew I wanted to work in the technology sector. After graduating and working for several large companies such as RIM and Co-operators Insurance, I packed my bags and travelled throughout Australia and Southeast Asia. While travelling, I was looking for a line of work I could do from anywhere in the world and quickly focused on the field of website development and Internet marketing.
What is it about your work that has you excited to get out of bed in the morning?
I really enjoy seeing independent businesses succeed. It excites me to help companies reach their potential online and start driving new customers to their businesses. When my clients succeed, I succeed.
I also like to devote some of my free time towards helping charities and non-profits. When you are lucky enough to be in a privileged position, it is good to give back to others less fortunate. That is why I donate a portion of my time to supporting organizations such as nfed.gov.gh (non-formal education division in Ghana), the Eco-society and local non-profits such as the Valley View Golf course, etc.
Recently, I helped to form the Nelson Tech & Knowledge Workers group on Facebook which has over 180+ members. The group meets up monthly and a lot of exciting things are starting to come out of this group (including the already successful co-working space on Baker Street in Nelson). I hope that by getting all of the local techies together, we can start to create a solid foundation for Nelson (and the Kootenays) to have a strong digital economy in the future.
What’s your focus for 2016?
In 2016, I am planning on launching a new brand focused on pay-per-click (PPC) marketing efforts. I recently purchased the domain name PPC.ca, with plans to become the pay-per-click marketing leader in Canada.
I also hope to continue to drive awareness about the local tech community and help shape the local economy through the tech sector.
Why did you decide to become an entrepreneur in the Kootenays?
I was born and raised as a proud Canadian and always wanted to keep my roots established in Canada. Since my career allows me to work from anywhere, I searched for the best location I could find in Canada that offered an adventurous outdoor lifestyle, but also had a good nightlife and community. The Kootenays are filled with a diverse range of people that always keeps things interesting. I also really like the fact that we are able to consistently enjoy all four seasons and the beauty they bring.
