Affordable housing is on its way

East Kootenay seniors can look forward to more budget-friendly housing in the near future

by

The Elk Valley Seniors Housing Society is renovating Sparwood's Lilac Terrace with the support of Columbia Basin Trust and the federal and provincial governments' Affordable Rental Housing initiative.

The upgrade will result in 12 new units being built, bringing the total to 42 units overall in the facility. The housing will be designed for seniors with low to moderate incomes, providing a safe environment for independant living, with meal services, community programs and palliative and respite care options available.

Renovations are scheduled to be completed by early 2016.
