Mom-and-pop Apostoles

Apostoles Greek Restaurant is a landmark in Golden, B.C.

by

Apostoles Greek Restaurant in Golden, B.C., is on our 2014 Best of Business list as a favourite ethnic restaurant. We contacted Cathy and Nico Tsantilas, owners of Apostoles, and Cathy answered a few questions for us.

Lots of restaurants have great food and service. What makes Apostoles special?

We have kind of a mom-and-pop style. We know our customers and we have personal relationships with them. Nico is a fabulous cook; he emigrated from Greece when he was 27 and he has a feel for cooking his native dishes. We’ve had this restaurant for 25 years, and everybody knows us.

What inspires you to keep up the high standard?

It’s sometimes a challenge to stay fresh, but Nico loves what he does. He has been cooking in Golden for 32 years altogether, and he puts out a great product. I work out front, with the staff and the customers, and I do the administration.

Do you ever take time off?

We close for two or three weeks every couple of years to have some time for ourselves.

Are you planning any changes or additions in the near future?

There is room to  expand the restaurant, but the timing for that is not appropriate for us. We’re looking ahead at retirement, so the restaurant is for sale.
