Jennie's Book Garden is a delightful shop in Winlaw.

Situated between South Slocan and Slocan City in British Columbia's West Kootenay region is Jennie's Book Garden. Winlaw's oldest bookstore, it has been in the area since the 1980s. It is open year round. Jennie Ash offers news and book recommendations on her website. For an added interesting touch, Ash has a store next door, Jennie's Other Garden, where she sells all sorts of merchandise from around the world.

What is your favourite thing about your bookstore?

My customers. I live in a little place, and I have both longtime customers and ones from afar. I also get to see all the new books.

What is your favourite book?

I don't have one—I have millions of books!

What advice would you give to other business owners?

Keep it simple.

What do you do to relax?
