Finding gold in the Iron Range
Eagle Plains’ find is good news for the company and the region
Geologists and prospectors have long been saying that British Columbia’s East Kootenay geology had tremendous potential that was not tapped out when the Sullivan Mine in Kimberley closed. Eagle Plains Resources Ltd. is very close to proving that theory.
The Cranbrook-based junior exploration company announced at the end of 2010 that it had found very promising gold mineralization in the drill results from its Iron Range property located near Creston. The property is situated in the same geological trend as the Sullivan Mine, which in its lifetime produced over $20 billion (in today’s prices) of lead, zinc and silver.
Eagle Plains and other juniors have continued to sniff around the area for another ore body the size of the Sullivan, but though they were certain at least one existed, the deposit eluded them. This find has not only boosted Eagle Plains’ stock prices, it’s breathed new life into the region for hopes of another economic generator.
