Greywolf’s new clubhouse

Greywolf Golf Course at Panorama Mountain Village now has a gorgeous new clubhouse to match its world-class course

Greywolf Golf Course at Panorama Mountain Village can hold its own with any course in the country in terms of spectacular beauty and quality of play; it’s currently ranked number 23 in Canada by ScoreGolf magazine. Though the clubhouse shared the magnificent views, its structure and decor have been makeshift for more than a dozen years.

Since the course opened just up the road from Invermere, B.C., in 1999, the pro shop, restaurant and club administration have been housed in a modular structure that was intended to be temporary. When Totem Golf purchased Greywolf in early 2013, construction of a new clubhouse to match the high standard of the course itself was the number 1 priority.

Totem Golf is owned by the Thorogood family of Cochrane, Alberta. The Thorogoods own the Sundre Golf Club in Sundre, Alberta, and they know the Columbia Valley well, as they have owned a home in Panorama since the 1970s.

The new clubhouse at Greywolf is built in the style of mountain architecture, using local timber and stone.

“The new facility fits perfectly into a mountain setting, using multiple natural, local materials,” said Justin Brown, Greywolf’s director of golf. “The inside of the restaurant is beautiful, featuring post-and-beam construction with 25-foot ceilings. There are windows everywhere, taking advantage of the views. Probably one of the best parts of the whole facility is the wrap-around patio. It offers spectacular views up and down the valley. It’ll be the best patio in Panorama.”

The footprint of Greywolf’s new clubhouse is about 8,000 square feet.

“It’s not massive, but it’s certainly a nice size, and it’s very well laid out,” said Brown. “We have a really nice pro shop that’s 2,000 square feet, so we’re looking forward to doing some sales out of there.”

Greywolf’s season will end a little early this year, on September 21, so that all the landscaping and paving can be finished before winter sets in. However, the clubhouse will be open for business from Thursday through Sunday during the winter. The official grand opening of the clubhouse will be held in the spring of 2015.
