To better serve the needs of B.C.’s mining, energy, power and forest industries, three partners from Cranbrook have purchased the consulting side of Interior Reforestation Co. Ltd. and formed a new natural resource consulting firm called Vast Resource Solutions Inc. Based out of Cranbrook, Vast Resource Solutions offers a range of agricultural, engineering, environmental, forestry, geomatics and reclamation services.

The company’s team consists of 35 highly skilled biologists, agrologists, engineers, foresters, technicians and ecologists.

“We have a very diverse staff,” said David Struthers, who is one of the ownersof Vast Resource Solutions. “There is no other company like us in the East or West Kootenays, in terms of the diversity of our staff’s expertise.”

Struthers and his partners, Shawn Vokey and Evan Kleindienst, are registered professionals in their respective fields of agriculture, engineering and forestry. They all worked for Interior Reforestation prior to this venture.

“We believe we have a lot to offer and one of the reasons we wanted to move out from underneath the name Interior Reforestation was that the name didn’t really reflect much about what our staff does,” said Struthers. “We found in dealing with existing clients they weren’t necessarily aware of the full range of services we offered.”

Struthers said the company’s main focus is on growing the business by hiring additional team members and offering a broader range of services. Vast is also looking to expand into new markets including independent power projects, oil/gas developments and contaminated site remediation. The company has field offices in Golden and Revelstoke in addition to its head office in Cranbrook.
