Fernie is renowned for its mountain resort, but the commitment to tourism is offered by a dedicated community.

The troupe decided to acknowledge the influx of seasonal employees from all over the world and provide educational resources about the community and the surrounding area. The event aimed to educate people about Fernie—and as a bonus, employees gained first-hand knowledge about the tourism industry that they’re representing.

The Tourism Information Trade Show was held at the Park Place Lodge in the Fireside room and Max restaurant on December 7, 2011. Highlights included a trade show, prize draws and an excellent opportunity to network within the community.

“The event was very well attended,” said Will Barbour, administrative co-ordinator of Tourism Fernie, “and Mark Gallup, owner of The Guide’s Hut, took the opportunity to report (on the hospitality sector in Fernie).”

At the event hosted this winter, guests were presented with some fast facts about Fernie—including information about skiing, snowboarding, cat skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, dog-sledding, cross country skiing, arts and entertainment, a brief history about Fernie, health and wellness resources, transportation and much more.

The hosts encouraged visitors to use www.tourismfernie.mobi for snow reports, news, event listing, deals and specials from your smart phone or www.tourismfernie.com
