Studying math and sciences at College of the Rockies has opened doors for many students to explore the world beyond their home community. Many have gone on to become researchers, environmental technologists, scientists, mathematicians, engineers and teachers.
College of the Rockies’ dean of instruction, Dr. Laura Cooper, commented, “Our faculty take their role as educators very seriously. They regularly encounter students who are confident with math and sciences as well as others who are fearful and dismissive of their ability to succeed. Through attentive and innovative teaching and providing field opportunities where possible, our science faculty achieve great success with the students they teach. Our math department is integral to many certificate, diploma and degree programs here at College of the Rockies.”
Dr. Cooper continued, “Students can take their first two years of university-level courses here, from highly qualified instructors, and transfer those credits to almost any university in the world. COTR also offers a collaborative bachelor of science in nursing degree with University of Victoria. The biology component of this degree is taught by our science faculty.”
University Studies department head, Sharon Richardson, believes, “College of the Rockies considers itself a gateway: an open door for students that leads to degrees and careers regionally, provincially, nationally and internationally. We have a proven track record of student success. In fact, many past graduates have returned to visit their instructors and tell them how much they appreciated the educational foundation they received at the college.”
