The West Kootenay Building Attainable Housing Symposium will bring together community-based housing societies, building professionals, local government, and other stakeholders for a day of learning and collaboration.
Hosted by the Kootenay Workforce Housing Society and Community Futures Central Kootenay, the symposium will take place in Nelson on April 30. Participants will hear from people leading local housing projects and explore practical approaches they can apply in their own communities.
“It’s a goal of the Kootenay Workforce Housing Society to encourage collaboration and creative solutions in the conversation around housing,” said Andrea Wilkey, Board Member of the Kootenay Workforce Housing Society and Executive Director of Community Futures. “This symposium creates space for people to strengthen both current and future housing development capacity and focus on practical next steps.”
The symposium will focus on development models that don’t rely on BC Housing funding, as recent changes to provincial funding programs have left many projects delayed or uncertain. Sessions will highlight lessons from local housing projects, showcase innovative approaches to financing and development, and create opportunities for new partnerships to advance future housing initiatives.

The symposium is sponsored by Nelson & District Credit Union and Etsi-BC.
