Cranbrook’s New Dawn Developments recently took home a prestigious Georgie Award for its Novak residence, part of its Northwood Estates gated-community development.
Owned and produced by the Canadian Home Builders’ Association of British Columbia, the Georgie Awards are recognized provincially and nationally as the premier housing awards program that highlights and celebrates excellence in home building in British Columbia.
Considered an “industry stamp of quality,” the Georgie Awards are open only to members of the Canadian Home Builder’s Association and affiliated local home builder associations throughout British Columbia.
New Dawn won the 2016 Georgie Award for “Best Single Family Detached Home up to 2,000 square feet and under $500,000 - Production,” for the Novak residence, a model home that was adapted to suit the specific needs of the clients, the Novaks. New Dawn president and CEO Chad Jensen said he’s thrilled to win the award.

“We are very proud to be a Georgie Award winner and are extremely proud of the Novak residence. That being said, we owe all the credit for this win to our clients," he said. "It’s their home, their selections and their dream. We just helped make it come true.”

The collaboration between the two resulted in an excellent product. “We are very proud of all the homes we build and this one is no exception," said Jensen. "Our attention to detail along with the client’s inspiration for decor have culminated in a wonderful home that exudes both class and functionality.”
While he did not receive any specific feedback from the judges at the Georgie Awards, Jensen feels they received the award thanks to a combination of technical and aesthetic success.
“ . . . We believe this particular home met the requirements (the judges) were looking for,” Jensen said. “And its simple effectiveness mixed with the clients’ desires for a modern look and detailed unique features enlightened the judges on what a home of this cost could actually be.
“The clients did an amazing job with their selections based upon their inspiration and made the home very easy to feature and show.”
On a personal level, Jensen was very happy with features in the Novak residence such as the modern interior that utilizes a light wall colour mixed with contrasting dark flooring, which sets off other features like the granite countertops in the kitchen and laundry room while accenting the unique bathroom faucets and towel bars. He adds that the front door is also a highlight of the project.
Jensen said winning the Georgie Award is a highlight for New Dawn and is a recognition of the quality and price point they bring to their projects.
“…The Georgie Award brings further attention that New Dawn Developments is committed to bringing quality products to our customers at a competitive price,” he said. “We believe this recognition can show people interested in building that they can have a beautiful, well-constructed home at a price point that makes sense for them.”
