The partially occupied Baker Street Mall, adjacent to the Safeway in downtown Cranbrook, B.C., will be given a new purpose and a new function. Baker Street Professional Centre Ltd. (BSPC), an affiliate of New Dawn Developments Ltd., made the announcement on February 4, 2014, that it has now acquired the mall.

The 55,000-square-foot building has been under utilized for some time now, with just six tenants: Sears Hometown Store, the Red Cross, Impalla Security Services, Cranbrook Drycleaners, Funky Stuff Fashion Accessories and Spice Hut East Indian Cuisine. According to BSPC, the shopping complex will be converted into a professional centre with a focus on health care.

Chad Jensen, president of BSPC and New Dawn, said he’s excited about the project and looks forward to developing a central facility where physicians and related health-care providers and support services are easily accessible to patients. Plans are in place to open the first phase of the centre in the summer of 2014.
