Fuelled by Passion: How a Lifelong Rider Found His Dream Job at All Seasons Motorsports in Cranbrook
Some people stumble into a career. Dayton Pouliot rode into his.
The newest General Manager of All Seasons Motorsports in Cranbrook has spent just over a year in the role—but his connection to the sport goes back much further than that. He was eight years old when he got his first ATV, nine or ten when he graduated to a Kawasaki KX 65, and he hasn't stopped riding since. These days, he and his wife plan their weekends around it: dirt biking, side-by-siding, motorcycle campouts—a calendar on the fridge with every weekend accounted for.
Landing the GM role at one of the Kootenays' premier powersports dealerships wasn't just a career move for Dayton. It was a homecoming of sorts—to a region he's loved since family vacations brought him here as a kid, and to a sport that's been part of his identity his whole life.
We sat down with Dayton at the All Seasons showroom to talk about what makes this dealership tick, what it's like to manage a five-line operation in the heart of some of the best riding terrain in Canada, and what he sees on the horizon for All Seasons Motorsports.
You've been a motorsports enthusiast your whole life. How did that passion start?
I'm a lifelong motorsports enthusiast. My first ever bike was a KX 65—and from the first time throwing my leg over a 450, I've always longed for that adrenaline rush. Two wheels always gave me that. Over time that's developed into a love for street bikes, which is a passion my wife and I both share and enjoy together.
What brought you into the powersports industry professionally?
It was a good alleyway through my passion for motorsports and my tenure in the automotive industry. Watching the acquisition and development of All Seasons Motorsports, I saw the opportunity to take my abilities into the powersports world—and I took it.
What's the biggest difference between working in automotive and working in powersports?
Night and day in many different aspects. The biggest is going from dealing with one manufacturer at a franchise dealership to now dealing with five different manufacturers under one roof—five different sets of programs, five different portals, five different processes.
But the second thing, and honestly the thing I love most, is the excitement in and around the store on a daily basis. It's almost unmatched. People are very, very excited to even just come in and look for a new bike or a new side-by-side.
Why do you think customers get so excited walking through your doors?
When it comes to motorsports, it's a luxury. People work very, very hard for their money, and when they get the opportunity to spend it on something that's going to bring them, their friends, and their family years of entertainment, excitement, and memories—they're very excited to do that. You might not always get that with a car purchase.
What does a typical day look like for you as General Manager?
The only thing that's the same every day is how I take my coffee and how I log into my systems—that's about it. We're in a big growth phase right now, and every day yields new challenges, whether internal, external, or things we might not have any control over. Every day is completely different, and I genuinely wouldn't want it any other way.
All Seasons is a five-line dealership. What does the showroom experience look like for someone walking in for the first time?
We carry Polaris, CF Moto, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Arctic Cat. Not a lot of dealers can say that, and we're proud to be able to. Each manufacturer has a dedicated showroom space, so it's very easy to navigate. With the addition of CF Moto just over a year ago, customers can now shop different manufacturers and compare different OEMs all under one roof.
We heard you have a pretty impressive Polaris display in the showroom. What's that all about?
It's a full 65-inch touchscreen where customers can build their dream unit in full 3D—see it from every angle, add accessories, and picture exactly what it would look like. And we can click to order directly from the screen, so the parts are on their way right then and there. Not a lot of dealers have that. It makes the whole experience really enjoyable and fluid when customers are here in the store.
Your own riding story is pretty personal. How does that shape the way you connect with customers?
Having personal experience with many different types of machines—motorcycles, dirt bikes, side-by-sides—means you can really fit the needs of the customer to the right machine. And that's not just me.
At All Seasons, we promote all of our staff to be enthusiasts. Ninety-nine percent of them already are motorsports riders before they even walk in the door on day one. That enthusiasm is genuine, and customers feel that.
When it comes to the customer experience, every single person is treated with the white glove experience, as I like to say. It doesn't matter if we're spending $500 or $50,000. That's my philosophy.
The Kootenays are obviously an incredible riding country. What would you tell someone who's new to the area?
The list is endless. I'm a big fan of riding whenever I can—if I get off work and I can get three hours of daylight before dark, I will go ride. Places like Tata Creek near Wasa are just 20 minutes from my house. There's so much great riding near Skookumchuck, the Baines Lake area—everywhere nearby has something different to offer, whether it's single track or hill climbs. Whatever you enjoy doing, you'll find it in the Kootenays.
Who are the customers you're seeing walk through the door these days?
We're seeing a lot of people who are new to riding and new to the area. The Kootenays is growing — people are moving here from Calgary, Vancouver, Ontario, the east coast—because of what the region has to offer and because it's relatively affordable compared to larger cities. We service a very large area, all the way up to Golden, Invermere, Fairmont, Canal Flats, Creston, Castlegar, and sometimes into Alberta. With that influx of new people, we're seeing a lot of new riders — maybe a husband and wife who've never been in a side-by-side before, ready to get into it.
It sounds like you do more than just sell machines—you're introducing people to a whole community.
Absolutely. Right off the bat we point new riders toward local clubs so they're not nervous heading into the bush on their own. They can join a group of 10, 15, 20-plus people who know the trails.
For a new rider, that makes it a lot more fun. The clubs are extremely welcoming—it's very much a "the more the merrier" attitude.
The Kootenay ATV Club just held Rally in the Valley in Canal Flats with 195 people registered. We try to get as involved as we can—showing up to events, supporting them with donations, whatever we can do.
What does the future look like for All Seasons Motorsports?
We're focused on filling and optimizing this showroom—staff, customers, product, the whole nine yards. Growth is the priority. And beyond that, we have a few irons in the fire—that's all I can say for now.
Outside of the dealership, how do you recharge and enjoy the area?
My wife and I have actually made a calendar at home, next to the fridge, and every weekend we've marked down what we're doing—dirt biking, side-by-siding, a motorcycle ride, a motorcycle campout. Literally every weekend we're getting out and enjoying our hobbies together. I'm very spoiled to have a wife with such similar passions. Our weekends are filled with making memories and doing things we love. We're pretty spoiled when it comes to that
