Valet Restorations cleans up

These are your go-to guys for dealing with damage from water, fire or wind

For two years before his actual move to the West Kootenay, Tony Silva had spent just one day a week at home in Kelowna. The rest of the time he was in the Kootenays with his business partner, Al Brown, doing contract work for their Kelowna-based company, Valet Contract Services. Silva and his family finally moved to Castlegar in late summer 2011, after he and Brown made the decision to open a restoration service company there.

A friend in need

When the homes of Castlegar residents sustained flood damage in June 2012, their insurance carriers contacted Silva and Brown at Valet Restorations (Kootenays) Ltd. Though their water-fire-and-wind damage restoration company was not yet open for business, in the face of the community’s need, the owners plunged into work six weeks early, with no computers and no protocols in place but with a willing staff borrowed from their Kelowna business.

The business has grown quickly. At last count, Valet Restorations has eight vehicles and 19 staff members—all of them locals.

A tight-knit team

“We thrive on looking after our staff and having a team environment,” Silva said. “If you want to work here you have to have a strong team spirit. We promote from within and we treat our people right. We’ve just finalized plans for group dental benefits, effective as of February 15.

“Between us, Al and I have over 50 years of experience in this industry. We want our staff and clients to benefit from our high standards of respect, honesty, quality and expertise.”
