Work on the new Kootenay Savings Credit Union (KSCU) branch in Castlegar is going full-steam ahead in preparation for the planned mid-September opening of what will be the credit union’s flagship building.

Dubbed the Crossroads Branch due to its proximity to Castlegar’s Kootenay Crossing Mall, the new branch is meant to complement the service provided by the Castlegar downtown branch and meet the needs of members in the south end of the city, said Dario Cescon, KSCU vice president of marketing.

“Our membership has been asking for a branch in the south part of town for many years,” Cescon said. “So we felt it was important for us to be down at that end of town.”

Construction on the building began in the winter of 2010 with the aim of building a facility that will meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards.

Along with a regular branch, the new KSCU building will be home to the credit union’s wealth management subsidiary, Kootenay Moneyworks, as well as the law offices of Thompson, Lerose and Brown.

When the grand opening happens in September 2011 the Castlegar Crossroads branch will be the 14th KSCU branch serving customers throughout the West Kootenay.
