What does construction have to do with camping?

In 2012, construction company Dueck Enterprises required a travel trailer for an out of town project. “The closest rental company was in Calgary, there was nothing here in Cranbrook. Further research confirmed a business opportunity was right in front of us and we could either rise to the challenge or walk away” shares Menno Dueck. So along with Christie, his wife and business partner, they rose to that challenge and Fisher Peak RV Rentals was born that summer.

The Duecks started with a Hassle Free package delivering and setting up their trailers (including camping accessories) in provincial and private campgrounds enabling out of area residents to camp in the beauty surrounding Cranbrook and Kimberley without the hassle of towing or the expense of buying a trailer.

“Our own camping has brought us good times and great memories, and we wanted to make it affordable and easy for anyone to camp” says Menno “so we recently added U-tows (small travel trailers and tent trailers) and a Back to Basics family tent package with accessories like propane stove, cooler, mats and dishes.” Fast forward to 2015, and their internet based business is now a full-fledged camping rental company sporting a new name, Fisher Peak Camping & Trailer Rentals.

In the meantime, Dueck Enterprises, their commercial and residential construction company, was on the hunt for a new location. “Our shop has been in the industrial park for years and the frustration of waiting at railway crossings many times a day was just getting to be too much for myself and our crew” says Menno. “We heard that Kootenay Fuel Injection (on the highway between Fas Gas and Elizabeth Lake Lodge), was looking to downsize and a purchase was made.”

With some reconfiguring of the building layout and a bit of land work, the Duecks were finally able to bring their two businesses together and include a portion for Kootenay Fuel Injection, too. “We couldn’t be happier with the new location” adds Christie, “everything under one roof has made operating our two companies so much easier.”

Although the products and services offered by their two companies are vastly different, “we are still in the business of customer service, of providing a quality product and satisfying experience to our clientele” says Menno. “Without our construction company, we would never have found the unique and exciting business of camping rentals.”
