Nelson, B.C., got some good news when local businessman Dale Arsenault decided to reopen The Royal, a restaurant and music venue on Baker Street, earlier this spring. Arsenault, also the owner of Boomtown Sports Inc., simply wanted to reopen the business as a place for the community to gather for good music and good times. Arsenault is also featuring the work of local artists on the walls of his restaurant.

The Royal held its grand opening on June 12, 2014 and has already hosted a number of musicians and open-stage nights. Follow the Facebook page to keep up with what’s happening.

For now The Royal has a food-primary liquor licence, meaning families are welcome to enjoy the excellent meals. Arsenault hopes to eventually secure a liquor-primary licence, which will allow for dancing and more flexibility for music events. Meanwhile, The Royal functions as a restaurant, serving meals from 9 am until midnight.

The Royal has been a popular mainstay for local entertainment as well as a popular gathering place for food and beverage for Nelson residents and visitors for many years. It looks like the tradition will continue under the guidance of new operator, Dale Arsenault.
