Watershed network hosting free water program

Working together is a common theme of an upcoming water forum being hosted by the Columbia Basin Watershed Network (CBWN).  Water Ways: A CBWN Forum on Water Governance is being held in Nelson, B.C. on April 14 and 15, 2011.
 

CBWN steering committee member Lee-Anne Walker said, "Our approach to water governance, and this forum, is one of collaboration. We encourage working together and recognizing the benefits of building relationships and partnerships."

The forum will appeal to a broad audience including local watershed groups, government representatives and residents with an interest in water issues.

The water forum will introduce participants to the basics of water governance—learning what it is, why it is important, who the stakeholders are and how to participate. It will showcase successes both in the Columbia Basin and elsewhere.

According to CBWN co-ordinator, Karen Nickurak, “It is important to learn what has worked well and build on those successes.”

Participants will also have an opportunity to discuss and learn about some tools and techniques to make participation in watershed decision-making more effective.

"This water governance forum is consistent with CBT's role of supporting Basin residents to increase their awareness and understanding of water issues and the decision-making processes that influence these issues," said Heather Mitchell, CBT Water Initiatives Program manager.

The Columbia Basin Watershed Network is one several water stewardship projects funded and delivered by CBT. In addition to water stewardship, CBT is delivering work related to water quality, quantity, governance and trans-boundary water issues.
