Kootenay Business magazine was recently given an exclusive behind the scene look at the massive new Waneta Dam Expansion Project. The $900 million project is complete and it will soon be handed over to Fortis, who is a 51% owner, to run and operate.

In this fourth video Wally Penner and Audrey Repin survey the confluence of the Pend d’Oreille River and Columbia River. Though out the entire project great care was taken to ensure not harm was done to any of the sturgeon population which use the area for spawning.

To the east is the original Waneta storage dam. Wally and Audrey are standing right at the water outlet where the diverted water will re-enter the Pend d’Oreille River, after being channeled through the huge turbines inside the powerhouse.
