Kootenay Business magazine was recently given an exclusive behind the scene look at the massive new Waneta Dam Expansion Project. The $900 million project is complete and it will soon be handed over to Fortis, who is a 51% owner, to run and operate.

In this second video Audrey Repin, spokesperson for the Waneta Expansion Project and Director of Stakeholder and External Relations for Columbia Power Corporation explains the steps that were taken to protect the white sturgeon and their spawning bed at the mouth of the Pend d’Oreille River where it joins the mighty Columbia River.

Audrey stands right above the massive grated gates that have been installed to prevent the sturgeon from entering any part of the powerhouse.
