The City of Trail has awarded the Cominco Arena Lighting Project to a local contractor, Power Tech Electric Ltd., for the amount of $81,965. The project’s estimated completion date is mid-July 2018 and entails the replacement of 52 arena light fixtures with LEDs and controls. Gescan, a local wholesale electrical product distributor, will be the main supplier of materials for the project. The light replacement project is part of the $1.2 million Trail Memorial Centre Arena Roof Replacement Project, completely funded by the Federal Gas Tax Fund.

“The installation of a new lighting system is one component of the Arena Roof Replacement Project,” said Robert Baker, the Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation. “We’re excited to get the project underway and we are very pleased to award the contract to a local company.”

In addition to the new lighting system, the Roof Replacement Project also includes the installation of a low emissivity ceiling, replacement of the arena’s 40,170 sq.ft. roof system, and removal of asbestos in the roof assembly.

“Although the Arena Roof Replacement Project is a huge undertaking, we anticipate full completion by the fall of 2018,” said Baker. “This was made possible by separating the lighting and ceiling aspects of the project from the roofing component whereby the interior will be complete before start of the 2018 ice season.”
