At the recent Annual General Meeting of Kootenay Rockies Tourism held in Rossland two new tourism awards were handed out. The first new award was for the Marketing Campaign of the Year award.

It was presented to the business or organization that developed and implemented the year’s most innovative tourism marketing campaign or initiative.

This new award went to Island Lake Lodge and Mica Heli skiing for their movie-length TV production showcasing skiing and snowboarding at Island Lake, Mica Heli Skiing and along the Powder Highway. The lavish production with a budget in the neighbourhood of $100,000 was called the Balance of Powder and was produced in a TV show format. It was broadcast all over North America to some 450 million homes and 730,000+ You Tube views and also produced as a DVD.

Accepting the award was Mike McPhee, marketing manager at Island Lake, near Fernie and Darryn Shewchuk, director of sales and marketing at Mica Heli Skiing near Revelstoke. Both operations are owned by the same company.
