The best community tourism initiative

At the recent Annual General Meeting of Kootenay Rockies Tourism held in Rossland two new tourism awards were handed out. The second new award was for the Best Community Tourism Initiative Award that was presented to the community (city, town or village) that developed and implemented the year’s most innovative tourism marketing campaign, initiative or event.

The winner was Nelson Kootenay Lake Tourism, Red Mountain Resort, Tourism Rossland and Whitewater Resort for their joint efforts in winning Powder Magazine’s “Ski Town Throwdown” contest.

On the way to winning Rossland/Nelson (Red Mountain and Whitewater Resort) beat out the likes of ski resorts at Whitefish, Sugerloaf, Crested Butte, Sandpoint and Bozeman.

Accepting the award were Anne Pigeon and Rebeckah Hornung, both of Whitewater Resort, Deanne Steven, Tourism Rossland, Erik Kalacis and Fran Richards, Red Mountain Resort and Dianna Ducs, Nelson Kootenay Lake Tourism.
