American electric car maker, Tesla, is planning to install supercharger stations in Golden and Revelstoke. According to a map on the Tesla website, supercharger stations are planned along the #1 Trans Canada Highway at Hope, Kamloops, Revelstoke, Golden and Banff.

Recently Revelstoke city council gave approval to a development permit application that allows Tesla to build one of its supercharging stations at the Best Western Plus Hotel in Revelstoke.

"Tesla approached us and said Revelstoke was a perfect location," said Brady Beruschi, the manager of the hotel, told the Revelstoke Times Review. "They're building their own little station and their going to run their own power supply."

Tesla is an emerging car company that builds electric vehicles and recently announced that it will build a manufacturing plant in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The charging stations are made up of four stalls — two specifically for Tesla vehicles, and two for any electric car. The new station will occupy four parking spaces in a corner of the Best Western parking lot. A Tesla Model S can travel about 425 kilometres at full charge.

A Tesla spokesperson told the newspaper that the Revelstoke station is part of a network the company will be opening along the Trans-Canada Highway between Vancouver and Calgary.

Tesla's massive new electric battery factory in Las Vegas, Nevada is slated to create over 6,000 jobs in the desert city.
