Despite not selling a single board of lumber into the Japanese market since the earthquake in northern Japan, Tembec representative is upbeat about the Asian market.

“We are currently diverting products to other Asian markets like China or Korea until the Japanese demand comes back,” Troy Hromadnik said at the Cranbrook of Chamber of Commerce luncheon. “With Japanese concentrating on restoring infrastructure they are not buying anything. However, we are expanding our J-grade product and will be ready to service the Japanese market when it comes back.”

Tembec is an integrated forest company and operates the Skookumchuk pulp mill and the sawmills in Elko and Canal Flats.
