There is a bit of a retail experiment going on in Invermere these days. TBS (the Bargain Store) recently renovated their main store and opened a new second location as a quick-serve or express location on 13th Street.

The second location has the look and feel of a convenience store and is better positioned to serve visitors and tourism to the popular resort community who may be in more of hurry.

“We’re thrilled to be here in this community. We’re blown away by this town (Invermere) it’s really a hidden gem and that’s something to be proud of, and we want to represent it. This additional store is the first second store location we have opened in years,” Lloyd Davis, president of TBS, told the Valley Echo newspaper. He added that the new TBS express will “serve two types of shoppers and present unique things to try in its location.”

The TBS store manager in Invermere is Leslie Hecher.

The shop originated as the Canadian division of the Woolworth's retail chain, which started doing business in Canada in the 1920s.

Woolworth's became a local institution in many cities and towns across the country. In the late 1990s, the US corporate parent was looking to divest their general merchandise division, and as a result TBS became a truly Canadian private company through a management led buy-out.

Under its new incorporated name, The Bargain Shop Holdings Inc. acquired 85 locations across Canada. Although they changed their name, they have tried to maintain and build on the famous Woolworth heritage, by holding onto a strong neighborhood and community focus. They continue to offer their trusted and loyal customers quality merchandise at everyday low prices.

They proudly serve Canadians in their own neighborhoods and small towns from Newfoundland to Vancouver Island, and are looking forward to the next 250 stores!
