Selkirk College’s new Rural Pre-Medicine Program receives Trust support
Selkirk College has received $50,000 in support from the Trust to help it implement its new Rural Pre-Medicine Program.
This three-year program will provide students with everything they need to apply medical school. It was created as one piece of a long-term solution to the shortage of rural doctors in BC, and provides rural and aboriginal students with a pathway into medical school.
"Selkirk College is grateful to the Trust for supporting its vision of excellence and access to local educational opportunities for students in our region," said Elizabeth Lund, Chemistry Instructor and Rural Pre-Medicine Program Coordinator.
Development of this program requires extensive collaboration across the health and education sectors both locally and at a provincial level.
“We’ve had a great response to this program from our region and from the medical community and all levels of government” says Lund. “It’s exciting to see this unique program so well-received.”
There are a few seats still available for the September 2014 class. If you would like more information about the program or would like to apply click here or contact Lund at 250.365.1265 or by email.
