Selkirk counts Nelson & District Credit Union in
Selkirk College has officially counted the Nelson & District Credit Union (NDCU) in with its donation of $6,000 towards the revitalization campaign for Studio 80 at Tenth Street campus in Nelson.
In November 2010, Selkirk College launched the “Count Me In” campaign to raise $150,000 for the revitalization of the contemporary music and technology students’ performance and rehearsal studio (Studio 80). The funds will enable the college to replace the existing 80 well-worn seats with 104 new seats and to buy and install new lighting and sound equipment.
“We are excited about supporting the refurbishment of the space,” said NDCU manager of marketing and relationship development Tom Atkins. “The improvements will directly benefit students and ensure the long-term development of the music program and the arts and culture community in Nelson.”
The NDCU has donated $6,000 towards the campaign, purchasing the naming rights to the sound room and two seats.
“The NDCU is the first organization to come forward to purchase naming rights and show their support for the project,” said director of communications and development Barry Auliffe. “We are very grateful and are hoping that others will be inspired to do the same.”
To date, the campaign has raised $24,675. Companies, organizations and individuals interested in supporting the revitalization project have the option of donating a monetary gift, purchasing a seat or naming a room. All donors’ names will be engraved on a Studio 80 donor wall and/or on the actual seat purchased.
The seats are $500 each and there are three rooms and the building left to name. All donors will be invited to attend the grand re-opening that will host a concert produced by faculty and students of the contemporary music and technology program.
