Debate over Revelstoke's proposed new Highway #1 gateway intersection which ushers traffic into the city is heating up in Revelstoke.  A recent open house brought out a diverse variety of viewpoints and some concerns over truck traffic negotiating the proposed roundabouts.

The proposal for a new intersection involves the installation of several roundabouts, with the idea that these traffic management tools will slow traffic down and distribute vehicles more efficiently to connecting side streets and businesses.

The City of Revelstoke has hired engineering consultant McElhanney Consulting Services to prepare several design options and manage the construction project slated for the fall of 2016, if and when the project is given the final green light.

Affected businesses at the intersection include McDonald’s, Tim Horton’s, A&W, Super 8 Motel, Petro Canada, Starbucks and Chevron.

The proposed budget for the redesign/re-alignment project is $1.1 million.
