West Kootenay – Transit customers in West Kootenay can look forward to greater convenience in their traveling. The Transit Trip Planner is now live on their transit system website: bctransit.com/west-kootenay.

“With the tap of a finger or click of a mouse, travellers in the West Kootenay region can now instantly access free transit planning information,” said Claire Trevena, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure. “I encourage everyone in the region to check out Trip Planner on BC Transit’s website.”

The BC Transit Trip Planner is a public transportation planning tool that combines the latest BC Transit schedule and route information, with the power of Google Maps. When you type in your trip origin, destination, date and time of departure or desired arrival, the most direct bus routes, connections and timings will be automatically calculated for you.

“Another great opportunity for riders in the West Kootenay’s to be able to plan their trips efficiently and effectively using the latest technology, another step to make the West Kootenay transit system the best,” said Lawrence Chernoff, West Kootenay Transit Committee Chair.

In 2016/17, BC Transit provided over 771,000 rides in the West Kootenay Transit System. The introduction of BC Transit Trip Planner will encourage ridership growth, demonstrating that public transportation is a convenient and reliable alternative to single occupancy vehicles.

“Existing and new transit customers alike will benefit from user-friendly route information,” said Erinn Pinkerton, BC Transit Vice President of Business Development. “The trip planner allows customers to see complete door-to-door trip details of their route including the walking distance to and from the bus stop.”
