Renovations to the former Target store in Cranbrook's Tamarack Centre, to make way for a new Canadian Tire store, are fully underway.  Construction contractors are busy transforming the empty building into a new Canadian Tire outlet.

“It’s good to see Canadian Tire moving on with the Target location there and increasing the size of their building,” said Cranbrook's mayor Lee Pratt, in an earlier interview with Daily Townsman. “We just have to find someone to fill their building now.”

Canadian Tire Real Estate Ltd is in charge of retrofitting, renovating and fully equipping the 9,312 square metre vacant retail space (former home of Target, Zellers and  originally the Hudson Bay) in preparation for relocating the Canadian Tire store. The proposed retrofit/renovation will accommodate commercial uses, including: consumer retail; a service centre with 13 bays; generous warehouse space; management office space and staff area. An additional 869.5 square metres will be dedicated to a garden centre located in the existing front, north-west, parking area.

The renovations will be made to be consistent with Canadian Tire corporate branding and signage.  Projected opening date is mid-to-late spring 2016. Canadian Tire will become a major anchor tenant for the Tamarack Shopping Centre, the region's largest shopping centre.

There is no word on what will happen to the existing Canadian Tire store location, once it is vacated on Victoria Avenue.  Ownership transition and transfer is slated to take place February 3rd, 2016, with current owner Richard Reinders retiring.
