Nelson Credit Union adds youth to board of directors

According to an article in Enterprise magazine entitled, "The voice of Canadian Credit Unions," when members of Nelson and District Credit Union were looking for someone young and technologically savvy to join their board, they approached Andy Chute. Then 26 and the founder of Funktion Design and Media, a web development company, he filled the requirements. Chute's relationship with the credit union began after he designed its website.

According to an article in Enterprise magazine entitled, "The voice of Canadian Credit Unions," when members of Nelson and District Credit Union were looking for someone young and technologically savvy to join their board, they approached Andy Chute. Then 26 and the founder of Funktion Design and Media, a web development company, he filled the requirements. Chute's relationship with the credit union began after he designed its website.

Eventually he moved his accounts over, and a short time later he was asked to run for the board. With no previous experience, he was hesitant, realizing what kind of responsibility it would be—but he took on the role. At 29, Chute is still the youngest director on the board.

"What young people can bring is a different life stage than all the older fellas," said Chute. "We are in the process of getting a house, starting our careers, getting through school—many of the older directors have already passed through that."

Chute credited the the continued hands-on training and support from fellow directors and management for his success, and says the experience has "been enlightening."
