KRIC appoints Larry Sparks as new executive director

The Kootenay Rockies Innovation Council (KRIC) has named Larry Sparks its new executive director and CEO. As executive director, Larry Sparks is responsible for leading the operational and strategic efforts of KRIC and reports to its seven-member board of directors.

“Larry Sparks brings a wide spectrum of skills and experiences garnered from right here in the East Kootenay region,” said Richard Wake, chair of the KRIC board of directors. “Mr. Sparks is a well spoken individual with a strong background in business and entrepreneurship and a broad professional network. He is well prepared to build on what we have created to promote a culture and economy of science, technology and innovation in the East Kootenay.”

“Larry is enthusiastic, approachable and community-minded. He will bring fresh perspective and new skills that will continue to drive the organization forward.” said Katie Wells, outgoing executive director.

Prior to KRIC, Mr. Sparks was a business consultant and ran several outdoor adventure companies from his home town of Golden, B.C.

“It’s an exciting time in the evolution of digital, clean tech and knowledge economies not only locally but globally. I am excited to be devoting my energies to the mission of the KRIC,” said Sparks. “I look forward to working with the stakeholders throughout the East Kootenay towards achieving our mission of fostering a vibrant, diverse, resilient economy through science & technology.”
