Kootenay Business hosts 8th successful College Career Fair
In partnership with the Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce and College of the Rockies, Kootenay Business magazine hosted another successful Career and Job Fair at the College on March 12th. It was the event's 8th anniversary. Over 150 attended the Chamber Luncheon which kicked off the afternoon's activities and over 600 students, job seekers and potential employees attended the career fair.
There were 38 exhibitors in all at the career fair, with good mix of summer job opportunities and long-term career opportunities as well. A panel discussion with four key sectors involved Daniel Tailor, of Teck Coal; Greg Fisher, owner of Top Crop; Heidi Romich, HeidOut Restaurant and Fisher Peak Brewing and John Buda, HR supervisor for Canfor.
The message that came across strong from the panel of Human Resource professionals is that they hire for attitude and a willingness to learn. They also spoke of their willingness to train and work with people to gain more skills and improve on their existing skills.
Half way through the program, moderator and publisher of Kootenay Business magazine Keith Powell introduced Danielle Cardozo, currently starring on the hit TV series MasterChef Canada. Danielle is a resident of Cranbrook and a past alumni of College of the Rockies.
Kootenay Business would like to thank all the attendees, exhibitors and organizers of this important event. See you next year.
