Kimberley touted as one of Canada’s “next-generation havens”
Retirement re-imagined...Florida? Phoenix? The seniors enclaves of the next generation range from former industry towns to barely developed Caribbean shores—so started an article in the recent edition of Canadian Business magazine.
Along with Trinity Bay, Newfoundland; Livingston, Texas; Gresham, Oregon; Honduras; Summertown, Tennessee and Newton, Mass., it lists Kimberley, B.C.
The magazine states, "As housing prices in B.C. continue to price out cost-conscious seniors, this former industry town, which lost much of its population when the Sullivan mine shut down in 2001, is one of the few affordable retirement spots in the province. Kimberley has more annual hours of sunshine and the same recreational advantages—everything from skiing to golf—without the hefty price tag. A five-hour drive from Calgary, it's just 30 minutes from the regional hospital in Cranbrook and closer still to the Canadian Rockies International Airport.”
Is Kimberley Canada's new retirement haven?
