The finishing touches are taking place at the Kimberley Athletic Training and Conference Centre, located right at the base of the Kimberley Alpine Resort.

The 5,500-square-foot conference room is a spacious yet inviting space for conferences, special events and meetings of all types. In addition to holding up to 500 delegates, the facility has a state-of-the-art catering kitchen, breakout rooms and two big screen video displays at each end of the room.

The centre food catering contract will be handled by the food service division of Resorts of the Rockies.

Tim Greiner—a familiar name in the Kootenay hospitality industry having working in the sales and marketing department of the Best Western in Fernie for many years—is the new centre's manager and only employee.

The athletic training centre, located on the upper level of the building, hosts complete team training facilities—including lockers, ski prep stations, a weight training and fitness room and team meeting rooms—all fully accessible to disabled athletes.

Tim Greiner expects the new centre to be an economic driver for the region's tourism industry, with its ability to attract high-level sports teams as well as meetings and conventions.

It is slated to hold its first event in early November.
